The city is surrounded by a green belt, the Ramparts. The ramparts of Ypres are the best preserved in the country. The signposted route is 2.6 km long and will lead you along a quiet 90 minutes' walk. Along the route there are 23 information panels explaining the different aspects of the Vauban Ramparts. The leaflet is free available in the Albion Hotel.

|Heritage Footpath Ypres
Follow the bronze rivets with the outline of the Cloth Hall, the cathedral and the Menin Gate at about every street corner. The Heritage Footpath is about 5,3 km long. A description is available at the reception of the Albion Hotel.
NEW in Ieper : entry points Ypres Salient
From October 1914 till October 1918 the battlefield of the First World War was located a mile or two from the Centre of Ypres. The trenches described a curve from North to South around Ypres. Among this famous Ypres Salient 3 new entry points were opened : North, East and South. They are free and open for public. Each entry point has 1 or more walking circuits, and leads the visitor among the last witnesses of the atrocious WW1. You can download the free walking leaflet for each entry point.
